There are national days for all kinds of things. There are national days for different types of foods, different vocations, different feelings, etc. We've even done a few stories on different days before.

But, the national day tomorrow is one that no one should skip out on - EVER.

August 1st is National Respect for Parents Day.

Whether you're a parent or not, this is a day that should be celebrated by everyone, everywhere. Being a parent is one of the most - if not THE MOST - difficult jobs in the world. It takes a lot to be a parent, and if someone is willing to step up and take on that role, they deserve our respect for it.

This is a day for the people that spend endless nights with sick kids, helping with homework, driving to sports competitions, shopping for groceries for the week, reading stories, playing catch, sitting down to talk through those difficult discussions that are found throughout life, etc.

These are people that deserve respect, and deserve to have their own national day dedicated to what they do on a daily basis. I personally can't speak from a parent's perspective yet, but I know that my parents have my unending respect for all that they did for me while I was growing up, and all that they're still doing for me now.

So, to all of the parents out there: Thank you for all that you do. You have our respect. Tomorrow, August 1st is your day.
