Every year about this time, the U.S. Social Security Administration releases their list of the top baby names for the previous year.  When folks take a look at this list, the two most common comments are:

"Hey, my name made the list!" or "Who would name the kid that?!"

Once again, my name made the top ten list for boys born in Texas in 2015.  Daniel came in at number 5 with 1646 kids being named that last year.  Here's the list of the top ten boys names for the Lone Star State along with the total number of babies given that name in 2015.

  1. Noah - 2147
  2. Liam - 1739
  3. Jacob - 1680
  4. Ethan - 1669
  5. Daniel - 1646
  6. Matthew - 1559
  7. Sebastian - 1536
  8. Alexander - 1510
  9. Jayden - 1499
  10. Jose - 1499

Many of the top names given to females last year in Texas had a big commonality...they ended in the letter 'a'.  8 out of the top 10 names had that distinction.

  1. Emma  - 2197
  2. Sophia - 2169
  3. Mia - 2036
  4. Isabella - 1854
  5. Olivia - 1806
  6. Sofia - 1708
  7. Ava - 1429
  8. Abigail - 1373
  9. Emily - 1300
  10. Victoria - 1203

As I take a look at the top 100 boys and girls names for 2015, there are a few that catch my attention.  For instance, Genesis was 20th ranked girl's name for 2015 with over 800 babies given that name.  I can truthfully say that I have never met anyone named Genesis.

Likewise, I've never met somebody named 'Iker', but 595 male babies were given that name last year in Texas.
