State Fair of Texas Announces Food Finalists
One thing is for sure at the State Fair of Texas. There will be no shortage of calories, and deep fried things on a stick.
The State Fair announced the finalists this week for the Big Tex Choice Awards, which picks the best-tasting new inventions that will be available at the State Fair this year. Fried Sriracha Balls anyone?
Fried Sriracha Balls have shredded chicken, corn, green chilies, tomatoes, and Sriracha hot sauce, and all of that is rolled into balls and rolled in crushed tortilla chips and deep fried. That's Texas!
How about this. Chicken Fried, Barbecue, Tex-Mex, and Chili weaved into one hand-held concoction called the Twisted Texas Tacos. The brisket is double-dipped in a barbecue spiced buttermilk batter and deep fried, served in a flour tortilla, layered with cheese, crispy fried okra, slaw and sweet pepper corn, and then it has gravy and chili on top. Wild and crazy and probably delicious!
The judging will happen on Labor Day, September 1st, and the State Fair starts in late September and runs for three weeks.
