If you went to the State Fair of Texas this year, you were part of a record-breaking event.

The State Fair said Monday that it brought in a record $41 million this year from ride tickets and food sales, and that beat the previous record of $37.3 million set in 2010. The fair in Dallas lasted for 24 days, and attracted about three million people.

My daughters and friends were part of the crowd this year, and they went for the standard merry-go-round and the turkey legs.  Anyone try those deep-fried balls called the Fried Gulf Shrimp Boil?  And can someone please bring that to restaurant menus?

It wasn't all about the rides, the corn dogs, or the fried Nutter Butters.  It was a record-breaking year for donations too.  The youth scholarship program brought in over $622,000 this year, which was an increase of $280,000 in donations.  And the 242,000 pounds of food will go to the North Texas Food Bank.

Next year's State Fair of Texas runs from September 25th to October 18th if you want to plan ahead.
