It's not just texting and driving that Austin is banning, but talking on the cell phone in the car too if the phone is up to the ear.  And if a police officer catches drivers or bicyclists tapping on an app while moving, they can be cited. Hands-free devices are okay, but even mobile devices like iPads and other tablets fall under the ban now. What about sitting at stoplights?

Drivers Drive Other Drivers Crazy!
I took an informal Facebook poll yesterday and asked for things that drive you crazy on the road.  It was inspired by the new research that says women most often fail driving tests over problems with parking, and men fail over reckless driving issues. Here's what Facebook revealed about the things that really drive you crazy on the roads.  Your pet peeves are:

Both Genders Think Their Driving Skills Are Tops
Whew!  We made it through the holiday weekend traffic jams.  It definitely seemed like there were plenty more people on Highway 59 over the three-day weekend, and Loop 287 too.  Everybody was out camping, fishing, or doing something else that put them in our way on the roads. Did you notice any bad drivers?  And if you did, were they male or female?  Guys will swear women are the worst drivers, an

This one may get your blood boiling, since you can see, first hand, the impact of accidents associated with "texting while driving". My drive to work is barely noticeable at 3.2 miles, yet three stop lights make it advantageous for me to peruse my fellow commuters.

Again, I'm not really a statistics guy, and readily admit that percentages of  some arbitrary poll excite me about as much as waiting for a  five mile-per-hour, 100 car train to pass through a highway crossing, when I'm already tardy for an appointment. But, I was pleasantly surprised to hear, that uninsured drivers in Texas has dropped nearly 35% compared to one year ago!   What does this really

We all know as responsible adults, that "drinking and driving" don't mix.  With the digital age in full force, not only are we hearing that "driving and texting" don't mix, but, it may not be too terribly long before Texas lawmakers sound the battlecry that if you send a message to a known driver, you may be held liable for your actions, in the event a disaster occurs on the re

It's the beginning of a holiday weekend, YAY! And the beginning of people in your way on the road and aggressive drivers ticking you off. Who will present the biggest problem on the road today? It's those darn red light runners. We've probably all had the experience of sitting at a red light that turns green, signaling our chance to go, and all of a sudden a car zooms through from the other dir

Had some business in Nacogdoches this morning, and on the journey back to Lufkin, I saw something on the highway that has not appeared before me in 15 years.  Is it because I've been "out to lunch", or have I been sleep walking through abnormal driving trips.  Right about now, you're probably saying to yourself, - "What's that weirdo talking about?...Outside of the collage of splatt

As a resident of Nacogdoches, I have to say that I am glad to see this put into effect.  I have been sitting at red lights and looked in the rear-view to see people almost slide into the back of me and after the tires screech, they look up from their cell phones.  Hopefully other communities will put this into effect as well.
