Earth Day is this Thursday, April 22nd 2021. In Lufkin there is an Earth Day Celebration at the Ellen Trout Zoo this Saturday April 24th from 10am - 2pm. They are offering 50% off admission. The way they are doing it will help the Earth, and it will be a great chance to talk to your kids about recycling, and other ways to do our part for Mother Earth.

To get the discount just fill a trash bag with your household recyclables and drop it off at the Education Center. Then you will get your hand stamped, so when you go to Zoo Admissions you will get your 50% off.

They are accepting cardboard, paper, aluminum cans, steel cans, and number 1 and 2 plastics. I would take some time and wash everything out that you can.

Now that you got your discounted admission, they still have some more to offer. Once inside the Ellen Trout Zoo there will be some activities planned for you, centering around Earth Day. If you have young ones that are feeling crafty, they will also have themed crafts.

Happy Earth Day, has becoming a pretty common saying. It all started over 50 years ago because of a horrible oil spill in Southern California. Now it's become an annual event that we use to demonstrate our support for causes related to environmental protection.

You can celebrate Earth Day, everyday, in your own way too. Try using a refillable water bottle, instead of plastic bottles daily. Pick up any litter you see to keep it from getting into our lakes and creeks.

LOOK: Stunning animal photos from around the world

From grazing Tibetan antelope to migrating monarch butterflies, these 50 photos of wildlife around the world capture the staggering grace of the animal kingdom. The forthcoming gallery runs sequentially from air to land to water, and focuses on birds, land mammals, aquatic life, and insects as they work in pairs or groups, or sometimes all on their own.
