It's that time of year when movie theaters and restaurants are deserted on Friday nights, because everyone flocks to high school football games. Football in Texas is king, and with the new season upon us, hopes are high that our teams are going to impress and win.

What are the expectations this year for Lufkin and Nacogdoches?

The Lufkin Panthers are picked to finished first in District 14-5A, according to the East Texas website ETSN.FM

The site picks The Woodlands to finish a close second to the Panthers. Lufkin players to watch this season include Seniors DeBryce Taylor, Jamal Davis, and Erik McCoy. We will cheer them on...to the playoffs hopefully! The Panthers were 9-2 last year and have their sights set on more this year.

The Nac Dragons didn't have a stellar season in 2011, finishing 1-9. So what's the outlook this year? Six offensive starters are back, and there is much hope that some of them on the offensive line will be the strength of the team. New coach Bobby Reyes will try to surprise folks in District 16-4A. The Dragons have just one playoff appearance in the last 19 years, so let this be the year that ya shock some folks Nac.

We're excited and ready for the Friday Night Lights. Why can't football season last all year? In three months the season will be over for most teams, so enjoy it while you can.
