Local Meat Market Participating In 'Hunters For The Hungry'

'Hunters For The Hungry' is not something I was familiar with before today. I hadn't heard of it before. But, as it turns out, it's a really cool program. It's part of Feeding Texas, and it helps make sure that needy families are able to get food.

The way it works is simple:

Hunters drop off their tagged, field-dressed mule deer or whitetail deer to a participating meat processor. (There's no cost to the hunter for this.)
The meat processor prepares the meat and it's then distributed to families in need by the local food bank.

See? It's a very simple process, and it helps out our community. There's even one of our local meat markets is participating in it!

Massingill's Meat Market in Lufkin is one of two participating meat processors in our vicinity - the other is located in Troup - that is taking part in 'Hunters For The Hungry'. That means that you can take your deer to Massingill's, and if you choose to participate in Hunters for the Hungry, they will process it, and it will be distributed by the East Texas Food Bank - our local food bank, in case you didn't know.

If you're thinking that you don't have a deer to donate, they also take monetary donations via their website. Or, you can make a donation whenever you purchase a hunting license.

Like I said, this is a really cool program, and it helps out families in our community. If you haven't thought about helping out before, or haven't been sure about how you can help, maybe you should consider looking into this.
