With the huge hurricane Harvey relief effort getting the focus now, don't ya kinda wonder if other every day charities will feel forgotten and suffer with a lack of donations? One Texas restaurant chain is doing its best to make sure that doesn't happen, and just made huge donations to area food banks.

People tend to feel generous during the holidays in December, but January can be a rough month for organizations that rely on donations.  Lufkin's Meals on Wheels program is feeling the pinch, and could use a boost right now.

Are we selfish?  Texans don't volunteer time or give as much money as other states do, but we have a chance to change that today.  It's National Giving Day, and that's why you're seeing #GivingTuesday on social media. The local United Way is in the middle of deciding how to divy up about $700,000 this year. Several local agencies have requested the help, and the Angelina County United Way spent much of Tuesday interviewing those groups and listening to them make their case. Today they're meeting to start making decisions on who gets how much.
