2015 was a rough year for Texans. That was the year that Blue Bell Ice Cream was recalled due to a listeria outbreak. You couldn't buy Blue Bell anywhere for months. We were losing our minds. But eventually, it came back with a limited number of flavors, and only the regular ice cream cartons, no novelty items (like ice cream sandwiches or Krunch bars). Even though it was a lower number of items, we were okay with that, because it meant that we had Blue Bell.

Over time, more flavors came back, new flavors were introduced, and some of the novelty items returned. But there was one item that I kept waiting for that didn't make a comeback. I waited, and waited, and waited...but it didn't return. Even now, 10 years later, one of my favorites still hasn't hit the shelves...

Cookie Cone Still Hasn't Returned...

Cookie Cone was basically the Cookies n' Cream ice cream, dipped in chocolate, and served in a chocolate waffle cone. It was one of the novelty items that you could buy a box of, all individually wrapped. It was on the Blue Bell inventory list pre-listeria outbreak, but hasn't been seen since.

I kept waiting for it to come back, expecting it to come back. It took ice cream sandwiches a while to return, so I really thought it might be the same for the Cookie Cone. However, it never did...

Blue Bell Did Release A Flavor Based On Cookie Cone

A few years after Blue Bell made its return, they did release a flavor that was based on Cookie Cone. It was called the Cookies n' Cream Cone. It came in a pint or half-gallon carton, and it had ice cream cone pieces mixed into the ice cream. If it had been created on the TV show Chopped, it would probably be described as the "deconstructed Cookie Cone". The Blue Bell website has the Cookies n' Cream Cone listed as one of their rotational items, meaning it's not available year-round.

I realize that the Cookies n' Cream Cone flavor is basically the same thing as the Cookie Cone. But to me - I suppose just because of nostalgia - it's not the same. I'd like to see the original make a comeback. But, until then, I'll just be happy to have Blue Bell of any kind!
