Golf goes something like this: slice, bad shot, terrible shot, decent chip, missed putt but a little closer to the hole, and then finally that dang ball finds its way and sinks into the hole. It doesn't usually happen exactly like that for Tiger Woods, but for many east Texas weekend golfers (myself included) we hack our way down the fairway and after the ball has had enough, it finally goes in.

We keep playing not because we're awesome, but because it's fun, and because every once in awhile we hit that one great shot. How did we do that again?

Regardless of our golf ability, we're all invited to play on June 11 at Crown Colony Country Club. It's for a great cause.

The goal of the "Tee it up for Teachers" golf tournament, hosted by the Lufkin/Angelina County Chamber of Commerce, is to raise scholarship money so teachers can pursue their masters degrees.

It's the fifth annual tournament. Teams consist of four members with a $500 entry fee, and if you don't come with a team you can register for $125 and you'll be assigned a team at the tournament. The event is a full scramble format with team scoring and a shotgun start.

The Chamber says the day will include a putting contest, closest to the pin and longest drive awards, and hole-in-one opportunities. Walmart is sponsoring a $10,000 shopping spree and Perry-Ellis Kia is providing a new vehicle for one lucky golfer.

Good luck! The registration deadline is June 6.
