Join The Fun At The Kid Fish Event This January 24th
I say that if you can find a way to get a kid out from in front of a screen, specifically outdoors, that's a win. I grew up hunting and fishing, and it didn't scar me for life, so I think that it's a pretty safe bet that kids now could benefit from some outdoor activities as well.
Apparently, some folks in the City of Nacogdoches have that same mindset, because every year they host an event known as "Kid Fish". And it just so happens, that they're bringing it back this year!

What is Kid Fish?
Kid Fish is an event hosted by the City of Nacogdoches Parks & Recreation division that gives local children a chance to get out and have a real, legitimate fishing experience. The city will be stocking one of the local ponds with rainbow trout before the event, and the kids will get the opportunity to fish them out (Yes, pun intended).
This year, they're expecting anywhere between 200 to 500 people, counting both kids and adults. So, this isn't exactly a "Let's try this out and see how it goes." This is a "We've done this before, and it worked, so let's do it again!" Any kids from ages 1 to 16 are allowed to compete and will be grouped into one of two divisions - Ages 1-8, and ages 9-16. In each division, there will be awards given for largest trout, smallest trout, and heaviest string of five fish. There's also an award for the largest fish - doesn't matter what species - that combines both age divisions.
Important Details for Kid Fish
Kid Fish will take place on Saturday, January 24th at the Lakeside Park, located at 4800 Pearl Street in Nacogdoches (That's located across Stallings Drive from Lowe's). It kicks off at 9:00 AM and will go until Noon.
Probably the most important thing to know about Kid Fish is that it's free! You do need to have your own gear and bait, and kids have to have an adult to accompany them. Kids don't have to have a fishing license during the event hours. More details can be found on the Visit Nacogdoches website.
So, put it on your calendar, and get the kids out to Kid Fish!
