It’s Texas Independence Day and We’re Celebrating!
Today is a huge day for Texans all over the world. Today is officially Texas Independence Day. Texans from the deserts of West Texas to the pine forests of Deep East Texas are celebrating! This isn't just another reason to celebrate the Lone Star State. This is THE reason that the other reasons exist.
Why Are We Celebrating Texas Independence Day?
On March 2, 1836, the Texas Declaration of Independence was adopted, which created the Republic of Texas. That means this is "officially" the 190th birthday of Texas. Yeah, you can say that it's a pretty big deal.
Without that declaration, there would not have been a "Texas" as we know it. I mean, you could make the argument that it might have happened later on down the line...But let me ask you this: What if it didn't? What if it wasn't adopted? Would Texas have become a sovereign nation later? And, to add to that, would it have had the chance to be annexed by the United States? Or would it still be part of Mexico?
However, it did happen, and Texas DID become its own thing.
How to Celebrate Texas Independence Day
Some people actually get the day off for Texas Independence Day. That's fantastic! If you're not one of those people, that's alright, too. I encourage you to get that Lone Star Flag flying if it's not already. Now might actually be a good time to get a new one, if needed!
Besides just showing off that Texas pride, there are other things you could do, too. There are lots of movies and TV shows that showcase Texas that you could fire up. There are series like Walker Texas Ranger, Landman, Dallas, and more. There are movies like The Alamo (1960 and 2004, so why not just watch both?), Smokey and the Bandit (Because who ISN'T a fan of Texas Sheriff Buford T. Justice???), and more.

Then, there's Texas music. You can go the country route - whether it's big mainstream country names like George Strait, Willie Nelson, George Jones, Tracy Byrd, Cody Johnson, or whether they're Texas/Red Dirt Artists like Randy Rogers, Wade Bowen, William Clark Green, Kevin Fowler, there are lots of options there too! You can even pick up Classic Rock and jam out to ZZ Top!
Whatever you do, whether you're literally in the state right now, or not, if you're a Texan - this is your day to celebrate (I mean, every day is a good day to celebrate Texas, but this is the "official" day). So, from El Paso to Nacogdoches, Amarillo to Brownsville and everywhere within the Lone Star State: Long live Texas!
