Texas Makes National News With Memorial Day Weather

Just as Van starts to recover from the tornado two weeks ago, more spots in East Texas get hammered by severe weather and flooding.  There was quite a bit of tree damage in Henderson on Monday, along with extensive flooding in Troup.  Angelina County reported high water on FM 2497.  But that's not the worst of it.

Central Texas, including Austin and the Hill Country were pummeled on Monday, and there were 12 people missing because of issues with high water in Hays County. Governor Abbott said Monday the flood waters in Hays County are higher than any other floods in Texas history.  Austin and Bastrop are also having issues with major flooding.

And USA Today says many roads are impassable in Houston because of high water, and since Houston is the 4th-largest city in the nation, having that freeway system crippled is causing all sorts of problems.

Texas is a huge state, but has there ever been a spring season where so much of it is affected by rain and high water?  It was 2011 that we were dealing with the worst of the drought, and now it's the total opposite.

If you're traveling across Texas this week, be safe and smart and don't cross high water areas.  And if your house is not flooded or damaged by storms, be thankful.  Many of our neighbors aren't quite so lucky.
