A much needed traffic signal is going up in the Bald Hill area in Lufkin on the way to Huntington. Many people have had issues with this intersection, and this life saving signal will be up very soon. Take caution in the area while this construction is going on. Take a look at the press release from TxDot.

LUFKIN – Crews will begin this week to set poles on US 69 South at FM 326 South where a new traffic signal will be located.
Work is planned to set the electrical box, signal poles and place lighted message boards that will warn motorists on US 69 South of the new signal that should be operational the first week in September, weather permitting. The advance warning signs with flashing lights will be operational 1,500 feet before the intersection and will serve to warn approaching drivers in both north and southbound lanes.
The $175,000 construction project comes after the community and area residents requested a traffic study in 2017 and the Texas Transportation Commission gave its approval in early 2018.
“This has been a long anticipated project in the Bald Hill area,” said Rhonda Oaks, public information officer for the Lufkin District. “We have been waiting on the poles to be built and other equipment to arrive and now we are planning on setting the new traffic signal over the next couple of weeks. We feel this project best represents what the majority of the public wants and our engineers determined from the traffic study that the new traffic signal will enhance safety at this intersection.”
As this project is completed, motorists are urged to reduce speed in the area and be alert to workers and moving equipment. Obey all traffic control and prepare for possible lane closures as the work is done.
